Bringing industry-class bike mechanic training to prisons and communities

We’re excited to share some big news!  Life Cycle has teamed up with Cytech, the UK's leading bicycle mechanics training provider, to bring industry-class courses to prisons and local communities.

This partnership, launching on 11th November 2024, will bring Cytech's renowned bike mechanics courses to Bristol and Leicester while boosting our social impact in prisons and local communities.

Expanding training opportunities in prisons

Building on ten years’ experience delivering accredited cycle mechanics training, our new Cytech courses will kick off in HMP Bristol and HMP Fosse Way. Our mechanics courses foster skills development and rehabilitation through hands-on training, so prisoners can build a brighter future.

Taught by our experienced tutors and supported by volunteers, we’ll be providing prisoners with opportunities to earn a bicycle maintenance qualification, while giving back to the community. Prison-based participants learn to refurbish donated bikes, saving them from landfill and returning them to local people as safe and sustainable modes of transport.

By acquiring skills and a qualification, prisoners not only enhance their employability, but also gain a sense of purpose and accomplishment.

Public courses coming soon to Bristol

In addition to the prison-based courses, we’ll be expanding our offer to the public in the coming months. Based at our Bristol “Hub”, the courses will empower learners to progress from beginners to advanced cycle technicians. This is part of our commitment to “strengthen the cycling sector” by growing the number of skilled mechanics in local communities and businesses.

Top tutors, great atmosphere. Learnt loads and hugely increased my confidence to tackle those trickier jobs on the bike. Loved the wheelbuilding in particular. -Bill, Google reviewer
The instructors were very knowledgeable and approachable, and the course was a great balance of practice and discussion. I've learned loads and feel way more confident with bearings, headsets and wheels. Would highly recommend to anyone who wants to develop their bike mechanics skills beyond basic maintenance. -Helen, Google reviewer
